The Zoo Fence To jump to our Text Only home page, To jump to our home page, Walking The Path with Brother Theophyle Here is the text version of this cartoon. For the graphics version, Favorite President On the wall behind Brother Theophyle is a poster that reads “Obama '08”. So, Rabbit asks Brother Theophyle, “So, tell me, other than Barack Obama, who’s your favorite American President?.” Theo replies, “Oh, that's easy, Mahatma Gandhi.” Rabbit responds, “Gandhi was an Indian! How can he be your favorite American President?” Theo reconsiders, “Yea, that’s right. Okay, let me try again. I know, John Paul II. He wasn’t from India.” Incredulous, Rabbit says, “You’re right, John Paul II was not from India. But neither was he ever an American President.” Theo tries again, “Geez, this is really hard. How about Charles de Gaulle? No, wait, don’t tell me. Is it Queen Elizabeth?” Rabbit walks off, mumbling, “I give up.” Theo says, “This is a trick question, isn’t it?” A red squirrel calls out, “If you ask me, the answer is obvious: Mr. Peanut!” And a raven insists, “No way. It’s Hercule Poirot, bien sûr.” Editor’s Note: This Theophyle was posted when Barack Obama was inaugurated. Normally, I make a point of keeping politics off The Zoo Fence. However, the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States seemed to me an event of such historical proportions as to warrant special notice, even from Brother Theophyle. |
