The New Year

Brother Theophyle is excited. He says to Rabbit, “Guess what! I've found a foolproof way to extend my lifespan. Do you want to know how?”

Rabbit replies, “I'm all ears.”

Theo answers, “It's simple. On December 31, instead of celebrating the new year at midnight, I celebrated a half hour early, at 11:30 PM. By doing that, I increased the length of the new year by thirty minutes. Now, I calculate that if I do the same every year for, say, twenty years, I will gain six hundred extra minutes of life. Think of it. Just imagine what I could do with that time.”

Rabbit, who seems not to be impressed by Theo's scheme, responds, “Yes, indeed, just imagine.”
